The Key Ingredient: Fluoride

When we brush, the main goal is to remove any plaque from our teeth that have been accumulating. As such, we recommend you to purchase toothpastes that contain fluoride. How do I know? The toothpaste will mention it somewhere on the package. If it’s not obvious, then simply look at the ingredients label on the back and it will be there.

Another way to confirm if the toothpaste contains fluoride is to look for the American Dental Association seal of approval noted by the badge, which contains the letters “ADA” on the packaging.

Important note: it is possible to manage the removal of plaque on teeth, but overtime if plaque is not addressed then it forms into a harder substance known as tartar. Some toothpastes offer “Tartar Protection”, but the only real way to remove tartar is at your dentist’s office using special tools.

What if I have sensitive teeth?

How So?

We’ll break the reason down for you. Two processes occur in your mouth that involves bacteria, sugars, and plaque: demineralization and re-mineralization.

When the bacteria in our mouth work to attack our tooth’s enamel, then demineralization is occurring. When minerals act to strengthen what was broken down – this is called re-mineralization. When the re-mineralization process occurs, any fluoride in your mouth will be used up to further strengthen your tooth’s enamel and increase resistance to acid attacks.
